We are a group of engineers, doctors, designers, 3D printing specialists, and project managers from across a host of industries (including mining).   We came together in 2020 with a common vision of saving lives during this COVID-19 pandemic by finding innovative solutions to assist with patient breathing problems. We have collaborated to develop innovative respiratory and non-invasive ventilator solutions that would fill the current gaps in respiratory therapy in our resource constrained environments.

The team was founded in East London where the reality of resource constraints in the provision of health services in Eastern Cape are all too real.  The Umoya team grew quickly and now consists of technical and manufacturing capability spread around South Africa. We work as a social enterprise, being a registered South African company (UmoyaOrg (Pty) Ltd;  Reg No: 2016/320695/07) with all of our trading surplus being used to develop new products or being donated to organisations with similar objectives as ourselves. Our focus is on the provision of health products and services suitable for low resourced settings.

Our first commercial product is the OxERATM and we have new products and services in the pipeline.

Ensuring availability of appropriate respiratory treatment anywhere in the world
